6 Benefits of GST for Startups

GST refers to Goods and Services Tax. Earlier, in India, businesses in different states had different rates of taxes. This led to irregularities in prices: increased prices in some areas and decreased prices in others. After the introduction of GST, tax was levied at every stage of the supply chain, which has reduced the prices of goods and services. The introduction of GST for startups and new businesses has helped businesses reduce costs and provided a uniform rate of tax in every part of the country. GST implementation has made business easy for new startups. It also benefits them with compliance-related work.

GST has provided various benefits to startups and new businesses. These include the following:

1. Reduced the Hassle of Multiple Taxes.

Filing GST requires a single registration process. This is easier work compared to the earlier hassle of filing multiple taxes.

As a result of decreased taxes and ease of registration, startups can easily spend more time and resources on their business.

2. Easier Movement of Goods Between Different States.

After the GST was implemented, the movement of goods within the state and between states has become easier and affordable. GST has replaced the border taxes, which ensures a smooth and easy movement. Now companies do not have to maintain warehouses in different locations and can transport the goods freely. This reduces the resources invested in logistics, which in turn saves resources for investment in other areas of the company.

3. One Nation, One Tax System

The introduction of GST has introduced a one-nation, one-tax system. This has led to an increase in profits of the businesses and has reduced paperwork, which leads to an increased ease in setting up the startups.

4. Simple and Online Registration Process

The register of GST is digital, which requires limited paperwork. The digital system helps reduce tax delays and speeds up the processing of information. This provides an easy way for new businesses to pay taxes, which enhances planning. This saves a lot of time and resources.

5. Tax Calculation is Simplified.

Businesses, under the scheme, have to pay a predefined tax rate on their total turnover. Additionally, eight different types of taxes apply to various items. Since tax rates are uniform across all states, it is easier to calculate profits and track transactions. Also, the number of returns to be filed has reduced.

6. Transparency

With the introduction of GST, the whole taxing procedure has become transparent. This allows companies to make changes in their logistics and budgeting outlines. Transparency in each step also leads to fewer errors.

7. Exemption from Paying Taxes for 3 Years

According to the new GST scheme, new businesses can be exempted from paying taxes for 3 years. However, to attain this exemption, companies must not be generating revenue of more than. ₹25 Crores.

Documents Required For Registration Of GST

Registration of GST is a process that requires documents at the time of registering the startup. Some of them include- Aadhaar card of all the directors of the company, PAN card, mobile number, bank account details, and PAN number of the company, along with others.

A proper registration is required to gain the benefits of GST registration. It has been observed that the process of GST registration is simplifying over time to promote the growth of startups and small businesses.

Conclusion

The introduction of GST for startups and new businesses has helped businesses and promoted the growth of startups. The new GST tax system has helped small businesses and new companies gain various benefits, including exemption from tax, increased transparency, an easier process of digital registration, and reduced the hassle of multiple registrations of taxes. It has also made it easier for businesses to operate without any geographical barriers, enabling companies to grow and benefit in competition.
